What was your first job?
Growing up my parents were always buying and selling real estate or building something. The very first job I had was when I was 6 years old my dad got me to pull the plastic of the back of the asphalt shingles they were using for one of the houses they were building. I realized, at 6 years old, as little as it was I helped create a home for someone. That hooked me into the building industry for life. My actual first paying job in the building industry was as a framer in residential construction and it grew from there.
If you weren’t a plans director what would you be?
I have always been in the construction industry. A surveyor, framer, building contractor, real estate broker, land developer, and residential designer. I always come back to the plans. I enjoy taking my knowledge and field experience and strive to create a set of working drawings that are easy to read, reliable, and cost effective to build.
What is your favorite quote?
A master of the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation. He hardly knows which is which; he simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.
